Global Pecha Kucha Day | Charity Conference

Pecha Kucha Night was devised in Tokyo as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It rests on a simple presentation format: 20 images x 20 seconds. This unique framework makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.
Pecha Kucha Night has turned into a global celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities, inspiring creatives worldwide. This extensive network was first united for “Global Pecha Kucha Day” – the world’s biggest distributed conference where over 100 cities held Pecha Kucha events on the same night, which resulted in a global 24 hour landscape of creative presentations raising money for rebuilding Haiti, 2010.

Haiti Reconstruction

On the 20th February 2010, 117 cities came together on a single day and held events across the globe to support Architecture for Humanity‘s plans for rebuilding schools in Haiti.

With over 200 PechaKucha events taking place in February and March together over 1000 presentations were generated and PechaKucha Night for Haiti has become the world’s biggest single distributed conference to date with the smallest ecological footprint. 100% of the $80,000 raised have gone directly to the design and construction of a school in Haiti. Pecha Kucha – INSPIRE JAPAN

Japan has inspired designers for many generations, it is where the Pecha Kucha show-and-tell event format was born, and it has gone on to inspire designers to get together in 400 cities around the world, to share their creativity at more than 1000 events each year. With the Global Pecha Kucha Day INSPIRE JAPAN over 100 cities came together to show Japan that the creative world is thinking of them, that all is not lost, and that it is possible to stand up and rebuild, even in villages and towns which have been completely destroyed on March 11th, 2011 and onwards.

The 20×20 presentations focused on 4 main themes: INSPIRE, JAPAN, THE ISSUES, and RECOVERY. All money raised at the events went straight to Architecture for Humanity and their plan to rebuild Japan.

INSPIRE JAPAN Berlin was organized and moderated by Uleshka held at LessRain’s Basement Bar.

Presenters included:
Günter Schickert
Friedrich Liechtenstein
Raban Ruddigkeit
Karina Griffith
Sheila Seyfert
Irmela Schautz

Art for Charity:
Again this year Joachim Frost donated art for Global Pecha Kucha Day. This time half of his private art collection was donated for his love of Japan. The money raised by his speedy “Charity Art Auction” made up half of all money raised in Berlin. Thank you!

Due to Uleshka’s strong connection to Japan, the INSPIRE JAPAN event was of personal concern and great importance to her. Watch Uleshka’s intro presentation for INSPIRE JAPAN and all other presentations here.
