PingMag | Tokyo based magazine about Design & Making Things

PingMag was the brain child (and heart) of Uleshka, and above all it was much more than a magazine. It was not only rated Asia’s biggest and best design blog at times and set standards in blogging which have been copied may times since, it was also an international contact hub for designers, a style guide, a rediscovery of traditional crafts, unique collection of contemporary design, trend scout and high profile network. All put together, it was an extremely fertile ground for future projects.

Tsudaro | Traditional Tea House with a new concept

Tsudaro was originally a tea house built in last days of the Edo period in Kyoto’s Kawabata area, Japan. It re-opened in 2010 as a concept-space new to the Gion district in Kyoto, which is famous for bars and restaurants only allowing guests by recommendation. Besides being open to everyone, Tsudaro wanted to extend the concept of a traditional tea house to a place for experiencing forgotten culture and crafts with authentic Japanese cultural art specialists. Uleshka helped them to create a strong concept, build a beautiful bilingual website and find the right angle to be appealing to both: Japanese and international customers longing to experience an authentic, traditional atmosphere with unique, extraordinary entertainment and service. Fritzing is an open-source initiative by international researchers at the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam to support designers, artists, researchers and hobbyists to work creatively with interactive electronics. Uleshka joined the team to create easy-to-understand information material such as PDFs and a new website (which is still in progress) to make easier for users to loose their inhibitions about technology and to get interested in trying out a simple-to-use yet very advanced software tool: Fritzing. Technical and partly geeky language had to be transformed and reshaped into terminology that is understandable, appealing to everyone and above all: inviting and fun. More…
